Kathryn "Kathie" Way

Kathryn “Kathie” Way, 68, of San Marcos, California, passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023 in San Diego, California. 

Kathie, born Kathryn Elizabeth Butler, on June 30, 1955 to Floyd and Joyce Butler in Cherry Point, North Carolina, grew up in a military Marine Corp family, with her 3 siblings, where it was instilled in her to share her love for family, people, and for travel. She spent much of her youth in Johnson City, TN and Hawaii before residing in San Marcos, California where she graduated from San Marcos High School in 1973. After high school, Kathie took her love for helping others into the field of nursing. She would spend the next 30 plus years in the nursing field. The last 20 plus years, she would find her niche as a Memory Care Director for several assisted living facilities throughout North County.

Kathie was a devoted daughter, sibling, wife, mom, friend, Memaw, volunteer, and Memory Care Director. She loved family gatherings and taking cruises with her parents and siblings. Her love for Bruce was unique and their own. No one loved being a Mom and cheering on all her children in every sport, production, and events the way she did. Kathie was loved by so many and was blessed with so many friends. She could often be found with DeDe Palmer and Dodie Bell (the Three Amigos) doing semi-retired activities. “Memaw“ was the greatest title Kathie ever received and loved every minute of it. She was very devoted to every resident and their family members she came in contact with while being a director. She shared the same devotion to all the volunteer groups she was associated with like the Jr Women’s Club (over 30yrs), Tuesday Girls and Friendship group (both group through The Guild_North County Quilters), and her bible study group (through North Coast/Life Group).

She was pre-deceased by her parents, Floyd Bulter, Joyce and William Toothman. Brothers-in-law: Dennis Snodderly and Gordon Lynch. Nephew: Micah Asmus

Kathie was survived by her loving husband of almost 44 yrs, Bruce Way, whom she met in 1975 and later wed in 1979. Children: Ashlie (Chris) Brown, Brie Way, Clinton (Alanah) Way, Derek (Shelby) Way, and Timothy (Robbin) Hoeffliger. Grandchildren: Eryn Hoeffliger, Kelsey Hoeffliger, Damian Way, Preslee Brown, Merrick Way, Jacobi Brown, and two grand-babies on the way. Sisters: Connie Snodderly and Amy Lynch. Brother: Terry Butler. Nephews: Jacob (Kelly) Lynch, Adam (Michelle) Lynch.
