Don Kaye

Don George Kaye, 80, died following a 6-year battle with cancer and COPD. He died at home after being in hospice care for the last 10 months. He loved to build things. He was once a private pilot, who built his own airplane from scratch (an RV3). He built his own TV. He was an avid golfer and worked for many country clubs over the years as a Marshall. He loved dogs and was a behind the scenes inspiration for his wife’s champion Collie breeding program. He played a major role in the background, building things and helping out with the dogs whenever he could. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t build, fix or repair. He had a separate garage/workshop with every tool known to mankind. He loved taking care of his almost 3 acres of property in Northern San Diego County, where he lived for the past 19 years. Born in Toronto, Canada of 100% Ukrainian descent, he migrated to the US in 1973. He retired in 2001 after working 40 years as a technician in heating and air conditioning. He is survived by his wife Gayle Rutledge Kaye. They were married for 47 years. No services.
